Woman Dies After Attending Tomorrowland Music Festival: “We Are Deeply Saddened To Learn of This Tragedy”
Completely taking over Boom, Belgium, Tomorrowland welcomed over 400,000 people to one of the largest electronic dance music festivals in the world. While the festival went through some major hurdles this year with a massive fire ripping through the main stage, Tomorrowland continued forward with its schedule. Able to build a smaller stage, thousands of people packed the festival. And sadly, Tomorrowland found itself at the center of an investigation after a 35-year-old Canadian woman passed away shortly after becoming ill.
Although thrilled to be part of opening night at Tomorrowland, the woman quickly found herself in need of some assistance when she started to get sick. With more than enough medical staff on hand, the organizers insisted they quickly treated the individual on site before transporting her to a nearby hospital. While being evaluated at the hospital, the woman passed away.
Tomorrowland Saddened Over The Passing Of One Of Its Fans
With the festival drawing over 400,000 people, authorities found themselves in a tough situation as they tried to determine what caused the woman’s illness before she died. A spokesperson for the festival, Debby Wilmsen, released a statement on the horrible news, writing, “We are deeply saddened to learn of this tragedy. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.”
While becoming an international incident, Global Affairs Canada admitted it was aware of the death of the Canadian citizen. The organization refused to comment on the situation at the moment, citing privacy concerns.
Outside of becoming a crime scene, Tomorrowland also gained a great deal of attention when a fire completely engulfed the main stage. Happening just a few days before the event, it seemed that Metallica stepped up to help the festival, lending its touring rig. And besides the generosity, the crew built the entire stage overnight.
Not letting the fire end the festival, stars like Lost Frequencies, Charlotte de Witte, and David Guetta took the stage as featured headliners. As for the investigation, authorities remained focused on tracing the woman’s steps throughout the festival to discover more details.
