Oklahoma Smash Burgers
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef (80/20)
1 large onion, thinly sliced
4 slices American cheese
4 hamburger buns, toasted
4 teaspoons yellow mustard
Salt and black pepper to taste
Pickles and ketchup, for serving
Directions:
Preheat a griddle or large skillet over medium-high heat.
Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and loosely form into balls.
Place a ball of beef on the hot griddle, then firmly smash it into a thin patty using a spatula. Season with salt and pepper.
Place a generous amount of sliced onions on top of each patty as it cooks.
Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the edges look crispy. Flip the patty, placing a slice of cheese on top of the onions, and cook for another minute until the cheese melts.
Spread mustard on the bottom half of each bun, then place the cheesy patty with onions on top. Add pickles and ketchup as desired and cover with the top bun.
